Correct me if I am wrong I have finally found the program I am looking for. It will simply make an exact copy of the file from source to destination but at the same time synchronising as is required . Sounds so simple but I have lost several backups because the back program simply refuses to recognise or for some other reason fail to recover the backup.
Hope I have this right ;-) If I was to pull the usb drive and plug it in to another PC it will read the files as there's no compression or other program required ?

Your assumption is correct, provided you wait until FreeFileSync has ended the sync, and you properly eject the USB drive.
