Error Code 5: Input/output error [readdir]

I'm trying to synchronise two external USB drives (both exFAT filesystem) on Ubuntu 18.04 but I keep running into this error:
Freefilesync error 22.02.20.png
I've run a disk scan (via Terminal command "exfatfsck") but the drive reports as having no errors.

Any ideas what might be causing this?
