Cannot send notification email [Error_Internet_Invalid_CA]

Email notification is failing with the following error message:
"Cannot send notification email to "...".
"ERROR_INTERNET_INVALID_CA: The certificate authority is invalid or incorrect [HttpSendRequest]".

Seems related to our internet/proxy authentication. When I log on to the internet (i.e. authenticate on the proxy) and run the FFS job manually then the email notification works. When I close the internet connection and let the scheduled job run overnight then the email notification stops working.

Is there a way to add proxy authentication to FFS settings or point SMTP details to our local email server (i.e. no internet required) instead?
