Very sorry to have tried this software. Seemed straightforward but has turned into a nightmare for me. Put most up to date folder on the left and the folder I wanted to update on the right. Activated update setting and it deleted all my most recent files. It did not, repeat did not, retain the deleted files in my recycle bin. What a nightmare this is for me. Anyone considereing using this software please backup all your files some other way before risking this tool.

Follow-up. Lost a couple of hours reconstructing my files and folders. Fortunately there was an opensource file recovery app that worked. It also helped that I did not further the damage by writing to tthe disk after deletion.
Figured out what I did wrong. I interpreted the settings buttons as choices that had to be selected. In other words, as options needing a "checkmark" or click to affirm the choice. Instead they represent preselected choices for you and clicking not only deselcts but performs the inverse operation (deletion instead of copies where there is a mismatch in the left-right folders). Quite a surprise.
Depends on how the majority of people interpret the layout. For us idiots who think of a menu and choice intuitive layout, you might consider using options-checklist format with literal checkmarks entered to indicate choice.
Once the intuitive part of the layout was clear, the software performed exactly as advertised.

The check mark just means that the operation for that item will occur. Unchecking doesn't reverse anything, it just excludes it temporarily and does nothing with it.

It seems you (@gsmiley) clicked on the suggested Action icon in the Compare results Window (in the column headed by the two green circular arrows icon), instead of the chechmark boxes (with no heading).
Clicking on an Action item cycles through the available options.
