Microsoft SyncToy is not working if If you accidentally delete a ".DAT"-file
in a folder which have beed synced
Do FreefileSync also place that kind of files around in the folders?
If not - Could it have some kinds of negative consequences not setting files
like the .DAT-files

FreeFileSync places a single "sync.ffs_db" file into each of the to be synced
folders, but *only* for <automatic> variant. For simple mirror syncs no
additional file is needed.
If you delete the "sync.ffs_db" file, it's not that big of a problem, since
FFS will behave like on first sync, i.e copy files that exist on one side to
the other and copy newer over older files.

But then - I guess - FLS are not any-more able to delete any files - and you
will get the now deleted file, which still is in the Back-up back again to
your main folder/drive etc
