Can a Win10 laptop be connected to a Win7 desktop by USB or other connection type for syncing with FFS?

Not by standard USB. You can buy special USB cables that allow to share data between PCs.
But instead of USB, you can use an Ethernet cable, or WiFi.

Thanks for your reply. So, if the computers are connected by Ethernet cable FFS will be able to find and sync files from laptop to desktop or from desktop to laptop?

No, FFS will no be able to "find" the other machine.
You have to tell the computer to share certain folders to external users.
And then e.g. Windows FileExplorer (and also FFS) should be able to access the data on the other machine.

Look up "Setup network share Windows".
If they are on the same network, and subnet, it should work

xCSxXenon - Sounds good. My Win10 laptop will arrive next week and then I'll have a chance to set it up and connect to my Win7 destop.
