Hello,
My new NAS runs on a ZFS file system. Data is being migrated from the old NAS to the new and in running some FFS tasks I'm seeing a much longer time to compare the files on the new NAS with the ZFS file system.
A bare drive is mounted to that laptop to copy data from the NAS to the bare drive. Currently both NASs have identical data as what is on the bare drive.
Running a compare with the old NAS takes just under 5 minutes.
Running a compare wit the new ZFS NAS takes over 20 minutes.
FFS rifles through the data on the bare drive in both cases. It is when the ZFS NAS data is scanned that things significantly slow down.
I'm not sure at this point if it is an FFS or a NAS setting issue. I have contacted support for the NAS but so far nothing has been discovered.
Both NASs were rebooted before the test. The laptop running FFS was also rebooted before the tests were run.
This is repeatable. Just as a note, running a subsequent scan yields much better results for the ZFS NAS.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
T
