FFS on macOS 11.4 external drive to My Cloud Home Duo

I thought it would be simple to synchronise certain folders on an external drive where page layout and design files are kept to my nas (WD MyCloud Home Duo in Raid1 format). I tried one simple two way transfer set up, creating an empty folder with the same name as the one on my external drive. Many files were copied but there were so many errors reported and the process seemed to interfere with WD Discovery App and its associated files.

My computer is connected via ethernet to an Arcady modem/wifi unit via an NTD box (fibre to the home). The WD Home Duo is connected directly via ethernet cable to the Arcady modem.

I haven't tried to connect the external drive directly to the NAS because it will just copy the files and not keep them synced.

My goal is to be able to use the share folder to collaborate with colleagues but also to allow me to work on my files from home using my iMac or away using my Macbook Pro. Currently I am copying folders of files one at a time but that doesn't mean they will sync.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Is your NAS mapped as a drive later or are you using UNC paths?

The drive is mapped as Raid1. I'm not sure how I would use full UNC paths with freefilesync. I would need to set up smb links I guess. I'm no networking whiz kid. WD Discovery allows me to use Mac's Finder transfers. I tried using Carbon Copy Cloner but I think it started getting too technical for me.

I was considering re-formatting the drive but I wasn't sure what would happen as it works well enough as originally formatted by WD. I'm not worried about losing data as I have a multi-backup drive system already but I was hoping to replace them with the NAS.

What errors are you getting in the first place? It should just be as simple as selecting the two locations you want to be synced with source on the left

Started from scratch today using ffs and they mapped fine. It was easier to open two finder windows and drag and drop instead of typing the UNC paths which I possibly typed incorrectly, missing one letter or character. Thanks for your encouragement. I was hoping it was a simple task and so it proved.
