FFS selects a subfolder and cant change it

Hello first of all I must say I have been using FreeFileSync since version 3.1
when I randomly discovered it and nowadays I think I could not work with my
computers without this program, it is simply amazing and very very useful I
hope Zenju will live 1000 years. This is my first post because until now I
never had any problem or complain.

I will try to describe my problem as clear as possible becasue Im a noob with
computers and I dont fully master english language, also I cant really
identify the cause of the problem, Im totally lost.

I work with 2 computers alternate. First I use PC1 (system with Windows 7
Ultimate x32 bits) and then I do a backup of my work in an external USB hard
disk with FFS and copy the data in PC2 (system with Win 7 Ultimate x64 bits)
and continue working there.

Then when Im finished working in PC2 I do a new backup to PC1 through the USB
HD again. My settings have always been "Compare file date and size" and
"synchronize mirror to the right" also I use the same FFS version on both
computers all the time.

Now the strange thing, I have noted FFS suddenly changed one of the folder
pairs going down one folder sublevel, all on its own, for example:

"<Left>C:\FOLDER-1\SUBFOLDER-1(????) <-----> <Right>D:\FOLDER-1\"

When originally it was FOLDER-1 on both letft and righ sides.

This started happening when I updated from FFS v3.21 to v4.0 (I manually
unistall FFS from Windows control panel and install the new FFS downloaded
from here on both computers) and like I say I didnt changed the subfolder
myself it was fortuitous.

I also think this started happening when I did the backup from PC2 the one
with Win 7 Ultimate x64 bits. FFS has administrator rights on both machines
though.

Even more weird is FFS doesnt let me correct the folder address and save the
correct route, I manually do the change and save it (FFS does the correct
synchronization then) but everytime I load FFS it is again there even when I
saved it...

Im completely lost so I will leave the problem description here to not cloud
more the problem. Maybe there is some clue about whats happening.

Hello again I have just discovered a new thing about this weird problem with
FFS and Im gonna post it to help identify the cause.

I have noticed the same subfolder change suddenly appears in another
configuration profile I had saved to do similar backups but in another
different external hard disk. The problem is I have not used that backup
configuration for months and that HD has been inactive all that time.

More things, I have opened with Notepad++ the ".ffs_gui" configuration files
for both profiles where the spontaneus subfolder appears (the config I use
randomly and the one not used in months) and the subfolder is not there in the
pair folder route, in the config file is correctly on both:

<Pair>
<Left>C:\FOLDER-1\</Left>
<Right>F:\FOLDER-1</Right>

Without the intrusive "\SUbFOLDER-1" which only seems to show when FFS runs
the config file...

Now I am going to try to delete that config file and make it again to see if
the rogue subfolder reappears.

There is some inherent issue with using wxComboBox, that was triggered by some
more or less unrelated changes in v4.0.

Thanks for the fast response, yes I read that post before while searching for
info about this problem and was thinking it was somehow related to it but
since I dont have much idea about these issues I decided to write a help post
just in case.

For the records I deleted the config files, made them new and the rogue folder
showed again.

Thanks again for the help and excuse the wall of text, all I can say is I
still have much to learn about this awesome program.
