I have only used free FFS to date and today I donated.
I use FFS simply to create a exact copy of local backup of my photos (on existing external drive) and a local backup of all files in Mac Documents. The method available for free was 'one way Mirror'

My questions:
1. is 'Mirror' just copy from the source external drive to the backup external drive - one way, replacing everything that existed and copying the sources selected
2. what is the difference using 'Update' ... It seems that Mirror always started from scratch, deleted all existing file on FFS backup drive and Update 'appears' to scan the existing FFS backup drive and compare it to the now current source and add new files.

The settings window where you select what sync method you want tells you what they do. "Update is the same as mirror, except that deleting files from the source will not delete them in the destination.
