"Backup Set" folders / files

I use FFS to backup my internal hard drive nightly (Mirror) onto a 4TB external drive. The drive keeps filling up even though there are only 3TB of data on it. I found the culprit: there are a bunch of folders called "Backup Set" (with dates). About 10 of them at 100GB each, so 1TB. What are these? Can I delete them?[img]

Your image didn't attach correctly. Are you on Windows? FFS doesn't create extra folders so not sure where those came from. What's in them?

Thanks, I undid the image attachment but the "img" tag remained, sorry. Each of these folders has a number of files called "Backup (date).zip". In Windows I cannot even open the file that contains them. It only gives me the option to "restore from this backup." So now I think I realize what's happening... I think for some reason Windows is backup in parallel to FFS.

Ah gotcha! Although I haven't seen a native Windows backup that uses zip directories. You don't have wny other backup utility installed?

It turns out it was an older Windows backup system (from Windows 7!). I don't remember ever setting it up. But it creates a backup folder that, when right-clicked on for properties, shows 0 bytes of data. And you can't open the folder--if you click on it you get the option "restore from this backup?" I had to go into Settings, where the older backup system is still supported... then "more info" then I found a "manage storage" option, which allowed me to delete the backup .zips and turn off the auto backup. Sheesh! Thanks for your help.
