Is it possible to use FFS to sync files from computer to computer directly? Using USB cable, crossover ethernet cable, or on a LAN, if so, how? For now, I am using FFS two-way to sync d:\documents\ to a USB passport drive then sync passport drive to laptop d:\documents & back.
Seems like there should be some way to sync directories directly from workstation to laptop.

Once you get a network share working, FFS can use that network location just like any other storage location. Mapping the network share using the hosting computer's name is usually a good recommendation.
