I think i know now.
First, sync folder structure by exclude *:
Then, sync that file type by include *.abc

If the folder structure is only needed/relevant for the *.abc type files, there is no need to first sync the folder structure.
FFS will sync the *.abc type files in their folder structure (relative to the left and right base location) and create the folder structure as necessary to store the *.abc files.
Only (sub)folder trees that do not comprise any *.abc type files will then not be created.
