I appreciate the alternative suggestions, althoughI think you would agree that this are "workarounds" similar to just putting an asterix in the "exclude" filter of the folder pairs you don't want to sync. I'm not saying that my request is worth anyone programming time, but it seems to be a much ...

Consider the following files and folders
source\fileA.txt
source\fileB.txt
dest\folder1
dest\folder2
Now I create "mirror" a profile with two folder pairs, and local filters:
source->dest\folder1, include *A.txt
source->dest\folder2, include *B.txt

It would be helpful, especially for checking/debugging a complex profile, to have a check box next to each folder pair to disable it without deleting it.

Besides my thanks for the reply, I owe you my apologies for the question itself.
I did not realize that there was the possibility of setting local filter for every filter pair. With this possibility, the solution is indeed quite obvious.

making a completely flexible filter system is hard, if not impossible. However, i think the current system could be greatly improved with the includion of an additional set of rules for a force include. This would modify the behaviour this way:
