I absolutely agree.
I also have many saved ffs_gui and fff_batch files which need I need to open
and resave one-by-one so that they are compatible with each new version.
Sometimes ignoring the errors and re-saving works fine, but at least one
version change of FFS has corrupted the config ...

There is nothing I've seen that comes close to it.
It has all the features that I need (and I guess most others need) - I would
upgrade for bug-fixes only (without breaking existing config files) if that
were possible ...

I can't believe that a change was made like this where the new version mis-
reads a previous version's file format.

Yes, I saw the warnings and took them to just be an indication that tags for
new features were not there, so just resaved the config files ...
