If you're the only user on the system and don't need FreeFileSync's folder locking in order to serialize multiple sync jobs of the same folder pair happending at the same time, you can disable it:
See FFS's help, chapter " Expert Settings ": LockDirectoriesDuringSync

option for alternative name for sync.ffs_lock and sync.ffs_db files
Thank you for a very reliable and competent piece of software.
I use it to sync files to a folder which is mirrored to a safesync cloud folder.

Re: Keep previous versions of files
I am using the programs as follows

The freefilesy profile that is triggered by a change to either folder

Re: Keep previous versions of files
I have set FFS to put the deleted files in a temporary folder. I have written
a VBS script to move the files from the date stamped folders into a permanent
folder with the same structure as the synced folder. It checks to see if the
file already exists and renames it if required. If more than the ...

Re: Detection of moved and renamed files
Thank you for the detailed reply. Your customer support puts many the
commercial organisations to shame.
For your information to explain why moving folders, rather than deleting and
creating a new folder, would be beneficial.

Re: Detection of moved and renamed files
Thank you for the clarification.
I guess asking for the algorithm to work with folders as well is too much to
ask for.
I guess I will just have to be more careful in choosing the names for my
folders.

Re: Keep previous versions of files
I agree with sm1987, having the old versions of files in individual time
stamped folders is a problem.
Appart from finding the old copy you dont know how long to keep the date
stamped folders.
Some files are change every day and some every week, month or year. If you
keep the folders for 6 months ...

Error level
I realy like this program and the uncompromising approach it takes.
I am having a little problem with automatinhg the process.
If I set HandleError section of the SyncJob.ffs_batch file to Exit
Freefilesync returns a non zero errorlevel when there are un resolved
confilcts.
