it's OK now. all i did was point it back to the new 6.5 directory during the open file selection by chosing a file there and it seemed to save this now as the default location. I had to do this for both FreeFileSync and RealTimeSync.

do you use UNC paths on your windows 8.1 PRO to do the same type of operations. have you tried mounting the NAS to a drive and seeing if that does the same thing?

it's OK i got it to work. I needed to be passing the saved RealTimeSync configuration file as an arqument to RealTimeSync when running it as a windows task for elevated privs (by-pass UAC)

trying to get this to run automatically on windows 7. set it up as a task in task scheduler OK so i could run it with elevated privileges to get around UAC, that works.
