I understand what you are saying about the data being removed from the source, but I can't believe that is what happened, since everything looked normal after running the COMPARE function on FFS.
I was able to recover a significant number of data files from the recycle bin ...

I recently performed a SYNC as I've done many times. The sync appeared to work as it always has, but when I tried to access my files, most files were no longer on EITHER drive that I synced.
After some searching, I found many of the folders and files in a folder that was created in the Recycle Bin ...
