Re: error starting batch job from task scheduler windows 7
Hi Aleksei, I am on Windows 7 and tried it too and couldn't get it to work. Then I looked at the FFS Manual Page for Schedule Batch Jobs . The solution is there -- I tried the solution mentioned and then the WhatEverName.ffs_batch runs without issues. Basically, on Windows 7, when you deal with the ...

Can you say what the 'error' is when you try to launch via Task Scheduler in Win7?
What is reporting an error? Windows? FFS? Or both?

Re: Does FreeFileSync act up with some drives, or is my hard drive dying?
Hi adios, I have two 500GB USB 3.0/USB 2.0 WD Elements Portable Hard-drives. I've had them for about 5 years but they only receive very light use as all I ever use them for is backups. For the last couple of years I've been using FFS to do the backups. Initially I was using USB 2 ports on my compute...

Re: Synchronizing files that were moved to another folder
But I have older files on the right side which I want to be kept on this right side only (archives) and not copied to the left side, so I am a bit lost. Way to do this is to do your mirror sync into a folder on the right-side. For example, backup into a folder titled "Backup" (on the righ...

Re: Trying to delete non existent files on USB external drive
If it was me I would try emptying the Recycle Bin using a command window (with administrative privileges). Google batch delete "recycle bin" and you will get hits that explain how to do this. Above said, I don't understand why your FFS is bothering with the contents of the Recycle Bin at a...

Re: How does one use the Donation Edition Setup Key to activate the application?
When you start FreeFileSync, you'll see the term "Donation Edition" in the application title bar . . . Zenju should have added that you will only see "[Donation Edition]" in the application title bar if, in the Configuration pane, the "<Last Session>" item is highlight...

You don't have to pay for FFS if you don't want to. Just download the free version and use to your heart's content. I have zero use/need for the odd extra features of the donation edition but I did donate because I think FFS a project worth giving a few Euros to now and then. No one forced me to do ...

Oh, damn! I tried again and see it now. Seems that you've expanded the webpage horizontally and I don't use my browser in full-screen display, hence why I was missing what you have done. My comment on that is bad move, Zenju. You are not the only one doing this, using more horizontal space on webpag...

Do we have crossed-wire here? I was referring to the "Manual" pages at the website . Even now I only get a single page to view -- the "quick start" page. No tabs to read any other topic at all. And definitely nothing to indicate that the manual can be read on a single page now. T...

Re: Is there a basic tutorial for MAC users?
I had a look on the web myself and don't see anything specific to a MAC. But then I'm thinking that it probably doesn't matter. I'd be very surprised if the same principles used by FFS for Windows (what I use) weren't the same as the principles that would be used for a MAC. Maybe a MAC and Windows u...

Feature Request: Add a Blue 'Tick' Mark for Sync Checked but Nothing to Sync
Just a niggly thing that I'd like to see changed in FFS GUI. As things stand just now if I run FFS GUI and it actually does syncs, in effect actually copies files from the one side to the other side (or both ways) then a green tick mark gets placed against the sync job in the FFS GUI (under the &quo...

Re: Possible Bug FFS v10.2 - Hidden Folder
Well no, there is no source folder, the source (left-side) is an entire SSD partition (with the exception of $RECYCLE BIN and System Volume Information etc. - filtered out by FFS) so I think no possibility of propagation that you mention. It's not a disaster issue, just thought it was worth posting.

Possible Bug FFS v10.2 - Hidden Folder
Hello Zenju, OS = Windows 7 Pro. x64 SP1 FFS = v10.2 (Windows x64) Build: 06/07/2018 I got a new flash drive and wanted to test it was functioning okay. Re: Run Command After Sync - Possible to Use Volume Name as Part of the Path?
Hi, Plerry. I thought the situation might be as you describe. And the solution you offer is fine and would to some extent suit my simple needs for doing backups. However, I can think of scenarios in which it wouldn't be fine for all users of FFS. So I would like to suggest that Zenju make it possibl...

Run Command After Sync - Possible to Use Volume Name as Part of the Path?
In the Synchronisation Settings dialogue, at the bottom of the dialogue, there is an option to "Run a command after synchronisation." I have a program, wxChecksums, that I use to generate an md5 checksums file for all the folders/files on the left-side that will be copied to the right-side...

Plerry, when I first read your response I was thinking, "Local filter? What local filter? There aren't any local filters." I spent a day going back into for FFS for half an hour looking for 'local filters' -- none to be seen anywhere. Shut it down. Look again a couple of hours later, must ...

Okay, Zenju. Thanks very much for the reply.
Maybe you could code this in somehow -- allow single folder, or single file, overrides to the "Exclude" rules. Just a thought, being able to do that might be handy in some situations.
Thanks again.

Is Copy One thumbs.db File Possible When thumbs.db Files are Excluded in the 'Exclude' Filter Options?
For a mirror sync operation I have this line in my 'Exclude' filter options: *\thumbs.db I want to know if I can leave that line in place but somehow in the 'Include' filter settings set an instruction to copy a thumbs.db file from a single folder (hence, overriding the 'exclude' setting for that fo...

Yes, Bingwu, I think you have the correct explanation. There is a page in the FFS Manual for this issue: Daylight Saving Time (Windows)
It would be great if dsca could experiment with this and report back what he finds. It's an interesting problem.

No, they do not get deleted after each sync - they are permanent files. You shouldn't delete them unless you have a good reason to do so. I do for testing purposes from time to time but then I do so from within specially created folder-pairs which I'm using only for testing purposes just to further ...

Re: Two questions
FFS stores comparison data it needs in files titled, on a Windows system, "sync.ffs_db". It stores such files in the root directories of the folder/drive left-side and right-side pairs. The files have the attribute set to make them a hidden file. So if you are on a Windows system then in E...
