Re: Cannot set directory locks for the following folders:

Hi Ubin C:\Users\Default.migrated\ is a leftover of any Windows 10 major update. Probably you may delete it without loosing nothing important, but to be sure, open it and check for yourself. If User Account Control ask for permission answer yes. After giving permission, a one time only procedure, th...

Re: Exit .ffs_gui after successful synchronization

Probably you mean /f

Taskkill without /f is like closing an app clicking the upper right corner X:
if the app is in a state where it can be closed, it close with regular housekeeping, otherwise none is done.

Re: Exit .ffs_gui after successful synchronization

Try Taskkilling FreeFileSync! Microsoft TechNet - Taskkill edit: I have done some testing but seem possible only using the syntax that force close FFS: taskkill /f /im freefilesync_x64.exe The correct way of closing FFS should be: taskkill /im freefilesync_x64.exe but is ignored. edit 2: The correct...

Re: COMPARE 2 TYPES OF FILE.

You can have many folders pairs as you want in the same configuration/sync job.

Example:

C:\A\ -> D:\A\
C:\B\ -> D:\B\
C:\C\ -> D:\C\

And so on.

Then should be of help to read the online Manual and to look at the video tutorials.

Re: Filter certain files in base directory but not subfolders

Let's say i want sync only .reg files from the folder c:\documents, excluding every other filetypes. When I filter everything with an asterisk (*) in the exlude list and add *.reg in the include list, it doesn't work because I assume the exlude list has priority. Like the manual says: I will try to...

Re: Location on hard drive of backup configurations

It was not necessary to delete them, it was enough to move them to your preferred folder(s) (better with FFS closed).

Then in FFS you would have reopened them from the new positions.

Re: Location on hard drive of backup configurations

You should/must choose the folder location best for you when saving your configuration/sync job and you should give it also a name:
- from the toolbar Configuration using Save or Save as...
- from the menu File

Re: Location on hard drive of backup configurations

There isn't a default configurations (sync job and batch job) location, you can save them where you want and FFS will list them anyway, as you have already discovered.

Try disabling the real-time protection of your antivirus before running the sync and re-enable it at the end.

On FileHippo you can go back to FreeFileSync 6.14!

FileHippo.com - FreeFileSync old versions

On UpToDown you can find FFS versions from 3.12 to 6.15!

Re: Log Files are not being created

FFS always logs its sync activity in the file

C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\FreeFileSync\LastSyncs.log

with recent activity on top.

But you can specify a log file specific for your sync job if you save and execute it as a batch job.

Re: Mirror two drives gives different results

Why should "Beyond Compare" find anything that FreeFileSync does not? Zenju, 07 Dec 2017, 19:37
Just to give dasmueller an option to verify that FFS does its job correctly or find the reasons if not.

Re: Mirror two drives gives different results

@dasmueller

Try to compare using "Beyond Compare", you can try it for 30 days.

Use the "Binary comparison" in "Compare Contents..." in the Actions menu.

It can compare a folders tree without intervention and gives you a detailed report at the end.

Rename the corresponding file on disk, whether it is a .ffs_batch or a .ffs_gui file.

Then Open it from FFS and Remove the old name from the list.

The generated CSV file contains the folder pairs and eventually the files shown but you must at least have done a compare.
