Sync files to phone (s9+) fails with:
Cannot write file "/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host=SAMSUNG_SAMSUNG_Android_2b9932590e027ece/Card/films/sync.ffs_lock".
ENOTSUP: Operation not supported [open]
NB:
- Compare works! (after ignoring complain about couldn't write sync.ffs_lock)
- I tried tools options fail safe copy off
- I also tried compare size only
- I also tried sudo freefilesync -> compare doesn't work

You can change the LockDirectoriesDuringSync flag from Enabled="true" into Enabled="false".
But make sure to read the risk of doing that.

For syncing with a phone, the risk is probably super low. Still look into the risks of course, but it just makes me desire the ability to change that setting per-config rather than globally even more.

Sure, but all flags in the GlobalSettings.xml file, including the LockDirectoriesDuringSync flag, are (as the name of the file suggests) global settings that apply to all syncs; not just the sync with the phone.

Well you can use an alternate GlobalSettings.xml.

You'd have to set it up & use a particular desktop shortcut (or similar) that referenced it...
