How to install ffs.tar.gz on ubuntu

Hi,

Could anyone let me know how to install the ubuntu distribution (FreeFileSync_8.6_Ubuntu_16.04_64-bit.tar.gz)?

There is apparently no readme or install file.

Usually, I install .deb files using the Ubuntu Software Center application, which is very straightforward. But there apparently isn't any .deb distribution for FFS.

I am a Newbie who is trying to get this program to run. It runs fine on my Windows computer.
Okay, the unpacking was done. Clicking on FreeFileSync does not launch anything. There are no instructions and nothing this newbie has tried has worked. I have googled and followed a lot of advice. but nothing is working. Any further help available? I am on Ubuntu Mate 16.04.

I'm always amazed that Ubuntu thinks it's a good idea to hide error messages and require the user to start from command line to see them. The problem is probably a few unresolved shared libraries, solution is to use the correct FFS version for Ubuntu 16.04. The Debian release should work.

Unfortunately I have the same results with the Debian 64 bit release.

I had the same problem in Mint17 (Ubuntu Trusty 14.04) and only solved by adding a ppa with these 3 commands:-
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:freefilesync/ffs
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install freefilesync
Now I have the problem that I upgraded to Mint 18 which uses the Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial platform and the ppa does not support Xenial. Where to go from here anyone?

I have the same problem on Ubuntu 16.04.01 LTS. I tried the version 8.7 and 8.8 downloaded and unzipped, the file FreeFileSync doesn't work, neither if I click on and if I write the name of the file in a terminal into the correct directory so I can't understand what libraries I need.
For the repository the same problem: The repository 'ppa.launchpad.net/freefilesync/ffs/ubuntu xenial Release' does not have a Release file.
Ok I've done Run in Terminal an received this error:

FreeFileSync: error while loading shared libraries: libunity.so.9: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

So were I can find this libunity.so.9 ?

Ok I found that libunity.so.9 is included into the libunity9 package so I installed it.

sudo apt update
sudo apt install libunity9

Now FreeFileSynk works fine.
