What version of Win10?
What version of FFS?
What antivirus are you using?

(No idea, BTW, just throwing stuff out...)

If you temporarily disable A/V ?

Are you attempting install "As Administrator" or as a "regular" user?
Do you have sufficient privileges to the instalDir?

Are you running in a virtual environment?
Might some other program have been in the process of making a "snapshot" when you attempted the install?

Firewall and A/V disabled.
Attempted as Administrator, having the related privileges.
No Virtual Environment.

As far as I can see, no other program/process is making a "snapshot" at the same time.

Probably won't hurt to check the operating system for errors. From the command line run:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
And also:
sfc /scannow

Just updates both Windows and DELL utilities to the latest versions.
Operating system has been checked and resulted just fine, see below.

Okay, next thing to check is a Process Explorer dump file while the ERROR_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER message is shown: https://freefilesync.org/faq.php#crash
https://freefilesync.org/faq.php#trace also won't hurt in case the interesting interactions have already happened when the error comes up.

Unfortunately I could not perform the steps described within the #crash reference due to the circumstance, that the process does not appear in the explorer list.
However, I followed the steps concerning the #trace, and collected a large log, available here for download:

that the process does not appear in the explorer list. fakekarma, 12 Aug 2020, 13:19
You need to look for the process of the FFS installer .exe (not the FFS shown on the screenshots).

I don't see any FFS installation happening in the Process Monitor trace file, just multiple attempts at starting FreeFileSync from it's default install location (C:\Program Files\FreeFileSync\FreeFileSync.exe) via FreeCommander.

Also there's dgmaster.sys (Digital Guardian), and bhdrvx64.sys, symevent64x86.sys (Symantec Endpoint Protection) being injected into every FFS process, both of which could be responsible for the above error.

I am not authorized to apply the modification suggested.
It is a pity that after many happy "user" years I should switch to an alternative.
Thanks for support!
