FFS 11.8 installation on Linux fails --> no error

If i run the .run file, nothing happens:

if i press run in Terminal "Accept license terms?" is shown:

after i press "y" --> terminal closes and nothing happens.

with 11.6 the run routine works:

Any tipps how to get 11.8 up and running?

Hello community - any thoughts? Are there more information I need to provide?
I am not able to use FFS on my Linux environment (Lubuntu), because I am not able to install 11.8.

Would be great to receive some kind of hint how to solve the issue.

I think there is an error and the installer quits rather than waiting on a prompt.
Fixed! Please download 11.8 again and retry.

Just downloaded the donation edition again --> no change... This is really frustrating....
Maybe the "new version" of 11.8 was not uploaded to your server yet? Will try again tomorrow.

Hi Zenju - it still just exits. So i tried your suggestion - at least there is some failure message:

Did you change something in the installation routine? With 11.6 everything works as intended:

Maybe the "non-root" user remark gives some kind of hint. Looking forward to your suggestions.

Are there any environment variables that identify the non-root user (you can check via "env")? Apparently the ones FFS is checking, $USER, $LOGNAME, all contain "root".
FFS needs the non-root user in order to identify the desktop and create shortcuts.

I still do not understand why it is working with 11.6 and not with 11.8 --> is there something different within the routine in 11.8?

I've updated the installer to support this scenario. The "Install for all users" option will be fixed to "YES" and "Create desktop shortcuts" is fixed to "NO". This doesn't seem to be a limitation in your case anyway.

You can test this already by downloading the official FFS 11.8 again.

Zenju - thank you very much for your great support! the installation worked with your new options:) but opening FreeFileSync 11.8 still did not work... --> same error message in the terminal about not finding the non root user.

Your hint with the "only root user" did the trick here though --> I added a user (should have done that anyway...) logged in with the new user --> FFS 11.8 starts as it should :)

That's not how the installer should behave, but right now it's a limitation: Usually the FFS installer tries to determine the terminal used on your Linux distribution and starts it for you. On Lubuntu unfortunately, it's "qterminal", which is broken when using the "-e" command:

If someone knows an alternative way how to open a terminal and immediately run a command on Lubuntu, please let me know.

Some environments set an "alternative" (as in the Debian alternatives mechanism) named x-terminal-emulator. That is one way a user can set his preferred terminal emulator. But I don't know if that will run qterminal correctly with a command immediately running inside it.

x-terminal-emulator just starts qterminal. On a standard Lubuntu system, qterminal and x-terminal-emulator are apparently the only terminals found in /usr/bin.
