Hello,
(first of all, sorry for my English, i'm just French, you know ;)...)
all is in the title, i've search belong the questions asked but don't have found...
Maybe I don't have look so far.
I have download an unbutu iso and would like to start my PC on my USB PK K'lip.
Then i have put the file on my USB key with FreeFileSync but i'm not sure it's enough to be good...
I'm French for the English language but also novice with all this material/program things...
I'll then be helped by a Canadian friend... as soon as my USB key would be ready !

I'd be glad if you should help me, otherwise, i'll pray !

Great thanks for any response,
Olivier.

I had the same problem and since there is no bootable version, I did the following
1. Download Hiren's Boot PE and install into usb (you can use ventoy or whatever you want)
2. Boot PC with Hiren's Boot PE
3. Extract from any windows 10 (on other PC) the library RstrtMgr.dll (c:/windows/system32) and paste it in the Hiren'sBoot PE drive "Boot x:/windows/system32"
4. Now install FreeFileSync on Hiren's Boot PE

PD: I have requested the creators of Hiren's Boot to include FreeFileSync in their suite

Just to be sure I understand: Your instructions would create a bootable flash drive with FreeFileSync installed which could then be used to restore a bootable "C:" drive from a FreeFileSync backup drive? (I hope I'm asking this question clearly.)

Thanks very much!
Barry

FFS (Free File Sync) is a sync program that works at file level.
FFS is not able to restore complete bootable drives; at best just the contents thereof.

I guess I'm not sure what benefit ajcg is suggesting then. If my boot drive was hosed, I'd reinstall Windows (or replace the drive and then reinstall Windows) and then use FreeFileSync to restore certain folders in my Home folder (Documents, Downloads, Desktop, others contained therein). Do I have this correct? Thanks.

That is the correct use of FFS, yes

It seems ajcg's suggestion simply gives you a bootable environment that allows you to run FFS.
