here. because of an unusual character in the artist's name, folders refuse to sync. but the files are exactly the same. the problem first appeared in version 11.25. before that, FileSync defined these files as the same. something changed when something was done with Unicode in version 11.25

That's interesting... Are you sure they aren't actually in different locations? What if you run the sync and then compare again, are the same files showing as different?

What is the difference between the two "i"? Is this upper-lowercase? Should they be considered the same or different?

In the shot, only the file "Akif Sarıkaya - Drop It Low.txt" exists on K:.
Both the ı & i versions are in C:.

27 will want to copy the i version to K:
24 considers the two to be equal.

So you're saying that in 11.24
Akif Sarıkaya - Drop It Low.txt compared equally to Akif Sarikaya - Drop It Low.txt ?
(Yes.)

And now in 11.27 they no longer do.
(Confirmed.)

Looking on the Everything (voidtools.com) end...
if you ignore diacritics, the two names match
& you take diacritics into consideration, then they are different.

what is the end? is it possible to fix this so that the files are synced as identical again?

Fixed! FFS was (wrongly) assuming that ASCII and non-ASCII Unicode always compared case-sensitively unequal. i and ı are a counter example. https://www.mediafire.com/file/l5orn7zuhj0okkp/FreeFileSync_11.28_%255BBeta%255D_Windows_Setup%25282%2529.exe
