what would FFS's advantages be over syncthing in such a user case ?

I'm a user of both products. I wouldn't consider them to be exactly the same or to be completely interchangeable. I use Syncthing to synchronize folders between my cell phone and windows and between windows and Linux. I use FFS more as a backup tool to protect my data onto external hard drives.

Syncthing is a Server to Server product and FFS is a Client Server product.

Syncthing is purely Peer to Peer.

To access a server on a remote LAN via the Internet, FFS might need aid from port forwarding rules.

Syncthing has technology built in to sync over the Internet. There's nothing you need to do yourself, unless you want to force sync via a certain method or technology. This is what I do. I combine Syncthing with free Meshnet software to create a private LAN over the Internet.

FFS can access cloud storage such as Google, SFTP, and many others when combined with Rclone.

They both work over a LAN and Via the Internet.

There's no need to choose one over the other, you can use them both for each of their strengths.

The advantage is that you can perform a one-way sync. Syncthing only performs 2-way sync.
