I like using FFS, and would like to change one thing...
I use Mega to save my documents to the cloud, and while running FFS, I notice a file called sync.ffs_lock being continuously being sent to the cloud.
I think it must be in the Documents folder.
Is there a way to change the location of that file so Mega doesn't see it?
Thanks, Mark.
Location of sync.ffs_lock?

No, it is used to prevent other FFS sessions from using the same locations during syncing. It is deleted after the sync is finished. Locking can be disabled, but usually isn't recommended.

So, to prevent a lot of creating and deleting of that file through my cloud manager, I have to disable Mega during the transfers.
This is a bummer as each time that file is created and deleted, Mega sends that file to all my other computers creating a lot of useless bandwidth.

It only creates one lock file per sync, and they are really tiny. Its impact on bandwidth is basically immeasurable

I search the lock files in the mac finder and find a lot of sync.ffs_lock, but can't see the file location? I wonder if these lock files are really deleted after the sync is finished?

If your computer is functioning normally and FFS syncs are finishing correctly, they are deleted

Hi,
my Mac crashed while performing a sync. Now I cannot sync as FFS states the sync.ffs_lock exists. I am sure this message has previously timed out and then synchronisation continues but in this case, it just waits.
A search for sync.ffs_lock is not listed, even with hidden files displayed, on either drive.

FFS should detect and delete abandoned lock files fine.
Have you rebooted the entire system?

I did reboot both my Mac and external disks. I also tried it on a different computer with the same result.

FFS writes its sync.ffs_lock files in the left and right base location of your left-right folder pair.
If you have multiple left-right pairs, in each of the left and right base locations.
So, that's where to look if you would need to remove such file manually.

If this happens on multiple computers, it sounds like the common denominator is the external drive. Using Terminal, navigate to the location on the external that you are using in the sync and run 'ls -al'I did reboot both my Mac and external disks. Thanks for the advice.
It appears the disk had a number of faults and I ended up trashing it.
