Hi all
I was recommended FreeFileSync by a friend as they thought it might be able to achieve what I need to.
My setup is that I have my own NextCloud server and I want to be able to sync that to Dropbox as another form of redundancy, but I also want to be able to sync new files from my Dropbox to the NextCloud server for example if someone shares a Dropbox folder with me and I add it to my Dropbox.
I have NextCloud and Dropbox on the same server so access to both the physical data folders.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance
Nextcloud Dropbox same server sync'ing

I figured instead of just installing a piece of software that changes files the best thing to do would be to ask, is that ok?What help or advice are you looking for??? Just, do it? xCSxXenon, 09 Oct 2024, 14:07

FFS doesn't change files. My point is that you just didn't ask for anything. It's like if I said "I have a car and I want to go to the store to buy grapes. My friend wants to go with me. They live down the road, so I can drive there easily. Any help or advice would be appreciated."
Like, what would that even mean? What could/would you say in response? Do you have an actual question about FFS?

I asked if it would the software would be capable of synchronising files between a dropbox physical folder and a nextcloud physical folder, so if FFS doesn't update or manipulate any files then clearly it isn't capable of doing what I need it to do, if I update a file in dropbox I want it updated in nextcloud and vice versa.FFS doesn't change files. As for you condescending abusive attitude, you can explain to the developers why they lost a donation and I will go and spend my money on goodsync instead, you could of been decent and helpful but you opted to be a snarky idiot

In support of xCSxXenon:
The only question you (laxus) asked in this entire thread is "is that OK?"

Your question was implied which is slightly unusual. Most people would say "Can FFS do this"
The information you want is probably in the docs here
https://freefilesync.org/manual.php?topic=synchronization-settings
I guess you need to select "two way" synch - creates, updates and deletes flow in both directions. I guess this means you need the time to be in synch, maybe they're all using UTC.
Probably the docs should have this information in an "introduction" section rather than buried in "synchronization settings" where it's not so easy to find.

There is not a single question mark in your entire first post. If you actually think that "if FFS doesn't update or manipulate any files then clearly it isn't capable of doing what [you] need it to do", you likely would have needed so much hand-holding and support anyway. I wasn't being condescending, but I certainly can be. Your ineptitude simply led to your flight-or-fight response causing you to get defensive when you didn't get spoon-fed everything you needed without any concise effort on your part. I'm sure that FreeFileSync, a free software package, will live without your oh-so-generous donation of a few bucks.I asked if it would the software would be capable of synchronising files between a dropbox physical folder and a nextcloud physical folder, so if FFS doesn't update or manipulate any files then clearly it isn't capable of doing what I need it to do, if I update a file in dropbox I want it updated in nextcloud and vice versa.

The guy asked politely. You were the dick here. He seemed like a good guy with a genuine question. There is not a single question mark in your entire first post. I've gone through some of his posts and he seems to insert himself in every single thread acting like this. This isn't helpful Xenon and just serves to derail the conversation. Do better please.

Ah yes, input from another person who wasn't happy when I requested accurate and useful information in an effort to assist them. Since you only want to, incorrectly, pick and choose what fits your opinion of me briefly, here's a quick forum search of MANY others who gave thanks for providing a resolution/info. Considering I am the common denominator, seems like a 'you' issue.
