I am moving from a Windows desktop to a Mac mini M1. I will have one external SSD formatted as APFS and the other HDD with NTFS. I will use Mounty for NTFS to support the HDD. Will I be able to use FreeFileSync to sync the data on the 2 drives? I want to avoid exFAT as I am concerned about data integrity.
I want to keep the external HDD on NTFS in case I may want to use the data on a Windows machine in future.
Sync from APFS to NTFS on a Mac mini

[So, You'll be running free file sync on Mac. it can either access locally browsable folders or an SFTP server.
When you use Mounty, does it support read write access to the NTFS drive and give you a way to navigate to it in the software's explorer? If the Mac can see both drives I don't see why free file sync would not be able to see both drives.
How old is your windows computer? If it has an encrypted drive like a lot of computers do these days you won't be able to mount it on your mac because of the bitlocker encryption on the drive.
Go to settings and then device encryption. From the search box on your taskbar type in "device encryption" If it's enabled, you can disable it there.
I was going to attach a descriptive screen capture only this form I don't know how to or if you can upload a picture.

Mounty lets Mac read and write to NTFS. I have not yet used it but my son-in-law uses it to connect to a NTFS formatted HDD which he uses to share between Mac and Windows. The Windows computer is about 6 years old and the HDD is more recent. The data is not encrypted. It is readable on the Mac.
If I re-format the old HDD to exFAT, I would be able to use it on both ecosystems. Would using FreeFileSync ensure data integrity if I use it to mirror the data from the SSD (APFS) to the exFAT HDD?

Not qualified to answer data integrity on exfat vs ntfs.Would using FreeFileSync ensure data integrity if I use it to mirror the data from the SSD (APFS) to the exFAT HDD? emil, 05 Jun 2023, 11:50
Personally, my external 4 TB drives are exfat, not ntfs.
