I am running FreeFileSync 14 on MX Linux 23.5 KDE 64bit. I just upgraded from 13.9.
After starting a file comparison the program crashed and the following error was displayed.
"Error starting "/opt/FreeFileSync/Bin/FreeFileSync_x86_64".
Killed by signal 11"

Any help appreciated.

Hi,

same problem here (Kubuntu 24.10 with Wayland) after update to version 14.0. "Killed by signal 11" after starting file comparison.

I uninstalled FreeFileSync 14 then reinstalled version 13.9 which always worked in the past. I now get the same error with version 13.9.
Perhaps a problem was introduced with a linux update. Both Ubuntu and MX Linux are based on Debian so it could have originated with Debian. That is just a guess on my part. I will wait and see if someone with more technical ability than me can figure out the problem.

On my Notebook (HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dh0xxx with 4 × Intel® Pentium® CPU 5405U @ 2.30GHz, 8 GB RAM, Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 610) several programs have exactly this problem (FileZilla, Gajim...). All those programs didn't crash months ago, it seems to be new (I connected it to a monitor and a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo, maybe I should try without).

My desktop PC (also with Kubuntu 24.10, but completely different hardware) has no problems.

So it might be a problem with Debian updates on some hardware.

I discovered that the problem seems to be with a Mime Type incompatibility. It was causing the Dolphin file manager to freeze whenever I attempted to open a folder with a json file inside. I believe that this was also causing the crash with FreeFileSync. Once I resolved that FreeFileSync ran normally again.

Care to expand on just what you did to fix your end?

Did you have to create/update something like, $HOME/.local/share/mime ?

I read a number of forum posts about the file manager, Dolphin, freezing which led me to this one, https://www.mail-archive.com/kde-bugs-dist@kde.org/msg863568.html. It advised deleting the ~/.local/share/mime/ folder. Instead of deleting it I moved it and renamed it. I realize that this is not a proper fix but it is working for now. Here is the first discussion where I read about the problem, https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=79890.
I use MX Linux 23,5 KDE.
