When I Try to update my Linux Mint 17 implementation of FFS using apt, it reports that the version on the PPA is current (version 6.9) with that already on my machine. Are there any plans to update the version on the PPA to 6.14? I'm getting an invalid database error when I run the different versions on the same data - the 6.14 version is running on a Win7 machine and it seems it's incompatible with the 6.9 version on my LM17 machine. Many thanks for a nice piece of software.

FreeFileSync versions on Windows and Linux are using different database file names, so there is no conflict. The issue is likely that FFS 6.14 on Linux is not backwards compatible to the 6.9 version anymore. Simplest solution is sync with 6.9 first, then upgrade to 6.14 (use the precompiled Ubuntu release), then sync again, and overwrite the database files (ignore the warning).

Apologies for being thick but...
When I 'open' FreeFileSync (having decompressed the downloaded Ubuntu version) nothing happens. If I drop the file onto a terminal window, I get the message: /home/richard/Downloads/FreeFileSync/FreeFileSync' /home/richard/Downloads/FreeFileSync/FreeFileSync: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.20' not found (required by /home/richard/Downloads/FreeFileSync/FreeFileSync)

I presume I need to install GLIBC, but not sure where from, for example.

Also, is the PPA not being kept up to date? If not, should I just remove it/them from my system?

Thanks again

The precompiled version from Ubuntu used to be compatible with Linux Mint. Obviously one of the latest Ubuntu updates introduced a newer version of libstdc++ not available on Mint (yet). If possible, an update to libstdc++ should fix it.

The PPA is not maintained by me, so I can't tell. The precompiled versions are created by me and always up to date. However they are available only for a select set of Linux distributions.

Thank you, Zenju. I'll get it working as I really value FFS.
