Hi All

I have always enjoyed using FreeFileSync untill today when with broken hearth forund that deletion was propagated from the right hand side folder to the left hand side one. I always do not like to use both ways sysnc, becuase of these types of dangers, therefore I always make sure my most up to date drive is on the left and the one to be updated is on the right. However, sometimes I do reoganize my data therefore the easiest way to ensure everything os organized neatly on both drive drive, I wjust wide the right hand side and run one way sync. Since FreeFileSync offeres new updates almost everyday (which by the wy i find a bit anoyyying), I accepted the update and for some reason my default one way sync was changed. I only noticed few minutes after clicking the sync button, I was hert broken to find all my stuff was wiped up. What a traggedy, this tool is meant to be a back tool, there should be a warning be a warning at least when large volumes of data is to be wiped. Why should software update changed my settings? I am just so annoyed now, i busy trying to recover the stuff with no hopes of recovering everything.

You probably uninstalled the old FFS version (which is not needed) and thous also removed your old default settings (LastRun.ffs_gui, GlobalSettings.xml in %appdata%\FreeFileSync) before installing the new FFS version.

There is in fact a warning before starting the sync if more than 50% of items will be created or deleted.

I never remove previous versions, I updated in place.
My reading shows that many people are complaining about this problem, therefore sure as you say there is a warning I might have overlooked that, however if many people are accidentally making this terrible mistake, it is up to software engineer to figure out protection mechanism as fall back plan. Presently I see that the software relies on recovery from recycle bin which is small, in my case for example I wiped 350Gb worth of data by simple single mistaken click. There should be fall back plan for sure.

Upon defining a new sync, but particularly also after updating the software
I make it a habit of first running a comparision and then evaluate
if the comparison results match my expectations.
If so, then I run the actual sync.
If not, then I correct my mistakes (never seen any FFS mistakes ...)
and compare again,
until the comparison results match my expectations.
