Moving files & folders with FFS?

When after a comparison (by content or attributes) I let FFS show the equal
files (and folders, they are shown automatically than, right?), and there are
folders shown as equal it does not mean, that the content of the folders are
equal (there names only are), is that right (so in the folder on the left side
might be three files in the other one 15)?

So I do not use the Windows copy & move function (for big data), because it
mostly causes problems, so I move (delete manually after synchronizing) / copy
data with FFC. Is there a possibility (instead of moving with the Windows
option) to move files / folders wit FFC (so after a synchronization - or
better an actualization) to automatically delete the moved / copied files on
the source side?

So when I move files / folders with FFC I first have to synchronize,
respectively actualize and then press the show equal files only and then mark
all the files (without the folders, that is important) of the source side and
then delete these files, is that right?

FFC? You mean FFS (= FreeFileSync)?

> they are shown automatically than, right?
Yes.

>(there names only are), is that right
Yes.

FFS is primarily a tool to keep "things" in sync. However you can emulate a
"move" in two steps: 1. copy source to target via an ordinary sync. 2. delete
source by "syncing an empty (or even blank dirname) directory in mirror mode
to the old source.

Many thanks.

Sorry, yes, the alphabet is not that simple for me...and I couldn' t find an
edit mode for the thread...

<<<2. delete source by "syncing an empty (or even blank dirname) directory in

Sorry, I do not understand, could you explain step wise (so would it be more
comfortable, easier than to just mark the files (without folders) in FFS on
the source side and press delete)?
And this kinde of "moving" will only work with all files on a source side, not
with a few of them, if I am right, so you cannot "move" 100 files of 200 from
the source side to the other side. And there is no way to "move" a special
amount of files of the source side.

No. Emulating a "move" via copy (= mirror sync) + delete (= mirror sync from
empty source dir) is useful only for batch scenarios. If you do things
manually you're faster deleting via main dialog.

Just thinking: you can put "copy" and "delete" mirror syncs into a single
configuration. Folder pairs are processed in the order shown on screen (top ->
down). So you can have two folder pairs 1. Source -> target and 2. <empty
dirname> -> Source. You just have to make sure not not ignore errors, since
you wouldn't want to have the first folder pair fail somewhere while deletion,
the second folder pair succeeds.
