Windows 2008 R2, FreeFileSync 6.11
FreeFileSync jos running under Windows Task scheduler do not finish and are killed by the Task Scheduler run limit, currently set to 24 hours. As far as I can see, the actual syncing has been done. When I run it in the foreground it finishes within an hour.
Any ideas?
TIA,

But does it also close all FFS-Windows when finished?
Did you select "Close progress dialog" under Synchronization Settings?
If not, FFS might be waiting for you to click an OK (or the like).
If errors have occurred, and you have not selected "Ignore" under Handle Errors,
FFS might be waiting for a confirmation on your behalf.

Actually, I have never seen any windows when running under the task scheduler, but that is probably because I was logged in under a different user.> When I run it in the foreground it finishes within an hour.

I have set "Close progress dialog" and ignoring errors.
I will make sure that I am logged in under the username that the scheduled task uses, and report back.
Thanks for your reaction!

I forgot to answer your first question: no, it does not close the windows when running in foreground. But then again, I would be surprised if they did.Actually, I have never seen any windows when running under the task scheduler, but that is probably because I was logged in under a different user.

A few observations:
- The task is configured in the Task Scheduler exactly as described in the FreeFileSync documentation (I think). It runs under username Admin, with full privileges. When I log in on the desktop, also with user Admin, and I start the task manually through Server Manager, I see both FreeFileSync.exe and FreeFileSync_x64.exe appear in Task Manager, but no window appears and both images seem to do nothing, probably waiting for something.
- When I end the running batch job with Server Manager, the process FreeFileSync.exe disappears, but FreeFileSync_x64.exe hangs on, still doing nothing. I have to kill it using Task Manager. When my ffs jobs have been scheduled a few times, several instances of FreeFileSync_x64.exe still hang around.
- When I have a look at the .ffs_batch file with Notepad, there is a <RunMinimized> tag near the bottom. Its value is False. I could not find a corresponding item in the configuration GUI. However, changing the value to True does not change the behavior described above.
- I think I have fooled my self into thinking that FreeFileSync has ever done anything useful running under the Task Scheduler. I never did a compare (with ffs) after a batch job had run, which I should have.
Configuration: Windows SBS 2011 (Windows Server 2008 R2) on a Core i5 with 16 GB memory. All updates installed. Ffs is V 6.11

I now have configured a fresh setup: Windows 2008 R2 (in a virtual machine), FreeFileSync V6.11.A few observations:

I configured a new ffs batch job, with all recommended settings: ignore errors, run minimized (yes, I found it) and close process dialog. Then I created a task in the Task Scheduler and let it run.
The specified folder tree was copied correctly and when finished, the task was marked Ready in Task Scheduler. It took only a few minutes for 200 MB. Every thing as expected.
So I did something wrong on my production machine, but I have not found it.
I will start over from scratch, and let you know the result.

OK, starting from scratch did help. It now works. Unfortunately I don't know what was wrong.
