Date/Time Backups rather than one updated backup

Discuss new features and functions

Ibidine

Hello been using free file sync for a while and I really love the program. I just wanted to know if there is a way to make my backups create a new backup for each sync rather than just update one backup. I mean this kinda like log files are generated with a time stamped folder. I want this to make a roll back point for a certain folder that is quite small. If anyone knows how to do this I would greatly appreciate any input.

Use macros in the target folder!
https://freefilesync.org/manual.php?topic=macros

Example of target folder:
E:\%timestamp%\

I tried but i get an error and then it creates a file with the time stamp but then only updates that folder it wont create another one. Am I doing something wrong? I really appreciate the help

Are you using the latest FFS version?
What error you get?
Mine %timestamp% expand correctly to date time.
In your second screenshot in the target folder I see a fixed date time and not the macro string %timestamp%.

I am using the current version and the time stamp in added as the destination folder but I get this error message. Ive attached both.

It is normal, ignore it and the sync will proceed.
Note that this warning is shown only running the sync from the gui, not if run in batch mode.

The error is shown in both batch and GUI scenarios.

If you "Save as a Batch job..." and choose the "Ignore" option in "Handle errors", this warning/error in not shown!

Of course not, that's why the option is called "Ignore". But in general the error is shown in batch mode.

Perfect is now working after ignoring error and preventing auto retry. Though I was wondering it is possible to change the time stamp time to 12hr format as I am not used to the 24hr format? Thank you so much for your help I cannot properly thank you enough. Also I was wondering from an older post I saw, why does ffs not mirror dates for folders that are sync'd is there a way to do this? Examples below one is the main drive Server * Backup is the backup drive

Hi, can anyone explain the exact way to do this with a macro? Because I literally wouldn't know where to start.

Basic usage

Example with time stamped destination folder:

Left folder (source) C:\Users\Gianni\Desktop\
Right folder (target) E:\Gianni\Desktop\%timestamp%\
