I have worked on adding personalized icons to each of my up to 300 folders in
the original drive.
Then I sync'd this drive with my back up with the "colaboration option" the
one transferring NEW and UPDATED files to the back up destination drive.
After the update I surfed through my back-up drive and to my surprise NONE of
the folders had their icon on them.
So I DO have a successful synchronization regarding the actual files, but
somehow the program neglects folder Icons.
Is there a way to fix this?
Thank you!!
I really cant think of having to re-do the icon assignment once again.

This is unrelated to FFS, but a Windows issue: Folder icons are stored in a
file called "desktop.ini" located in the very same folder. Copying this file
should do.

I see, is it a hidden file? Why doesn't FFS copy that file like any other file
in the folder?
(I love your swift answers, this is the best software and community I have
ever been part of =)

I actually just copied the desktop.ini file, which was a hidden system file,
and it effected no change in the icon department.
I am baffled, I have no idea how to mirror the icons of my folders.

Ah, I knew I've already read about this:

An "attrib "folder name" +r" will fix this.

Does that mean that if I make the folders READ ONLY then they will be
synchronized with their icon?
as far as I have seen the desktop.ini text specifies the path of the icon, so
in case the icon of the original folder is in the original drive does it still
gets copied to the synch drive? or should I put the icons within each folder ?
Also for what I read in that link the read only folder is just and euphemism
for "keep my settings" right? I still am able to upgrade those folders with
new files, right?
Thank you for your patiance.

I am reading several articles like this one:
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/1045585-get-windows-read-copied-desktop.html
It seems it can only be done through command line? I always get stuck there,
maybe I am going to quit my quest unless there is a GUI to do the read only
thing..

here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/52450-45-folder-icons-desktop
at the bottom of this article they explain how to create a .reg file to merge
in the registry to have the "make read only" option in the context menu!! =)
and yes, it seems you must have the icon in each folder, which is ok given
that you manage to make the icon invisible, which you know.. has its share of
googling, but is actually mentioned in the link posted in my last post.

As Raymond in his blog describes the "read-only" flag is "reused" by Windows
as an indicator that "something's special" about a folder. In your case it's
icon customization via "desktop.ini". This flag is copied by FFS, but only
when creating a new folder. I don't see any way to set "read-only" or "system"
for a folder from Windows GUI, so issuing an "attrib" command seems to be the
only other way.

Zenju: Raymonds blog? Lol I know you mean some of the links in this thread, I
just dont know which one, but I will re-read them. AND ALSO: It DID work for
me, after setting the icon and making the folder READ ONLY and syncing it to
the back up drive!! I mean: After MIRRORING the original drive with the ICON
folders (read only folders) the back up drive SHOWED THOSE FOLDERS AND THEIR
ICONS!!
I had NOT to create new folders, just make sure to make them READ ONLY before
syncing.
Zenju, your patience and hints helped me find a way to fix this! I am very
thankful with you! I hope you can archive this thread, I am sure people might
have this issue later =).

After consuming this huge blog about Win32 programming a few months ago, I
seem to have adapted the tone of the forums there ;) Note to myself: Not
everyone has read it.
