Hi, I would like to run FreeFileSync on two folders on two separate drives (each containing many photos) and combine the output of that sync to a third drive, is this possible?

I have used (digital volcano software) Duplicate Cleaner Free and am fairly confident that each drive contains only one of each photo. However, without doubt there will be duplicates of each photo contained on both the drives.

My wish to output the sync to a third drive is to ensure that no files are lost or overwritten by my not understanding the parameters of the program.

Kind regards
Richard

Are you trying to sync them to the same directory on the destination? You can use the 'update' sync method so that it won't delete anything on the destination. The downside to this is it won't delete content from the destination if you deleted it from a source, but then it won't delete any changes from the previous sync you ran.

You can certainly use FFS to copy the two drives to separate directories on a third drive.
Now that will have no bearing on duplicates.

Then you can then use DC to clean up the dups between those two directories after the fact.
(Or you could use DC now, to clean up between the two drives before copying to the third.)

I'm in the process currently of coping from various HDD to a single external HDD & am well aware that I'll end up with many dups on the external (as some of the HDD already are backups), but once done, I'll use DC (& or other utilities) to clean up & consolidate the dups from my external drive.

Not Syncing to same directory/same destination.

One internal and one external drive contain the files for syncing and will be output to a third external drive.

I will try the update, thanks for your input

Thanks for your input, a lot to digest, I also have one other suggestion. I'll look at the merits of both then decide. Thanks again
