Hello,
I'm using Freefilesync to backup our web-based ticket system hosted on bluehost
This worked in the past, and I sort of forgot about it
During a verification of all our backups, the ftp backup showed to have stalled about 2 months ago.
the ftp sync hangs or freezes during the scanning phase:
the timer continues but the file names no longer changes.
for minutes nothing happens
when cancelled, the application crashes with windows "Application hang"
after multiple retries, the sync was but successful only once, but mainly hangs during scanning with various scan_count, file name, and time at "freeze" point.
On bluehost( a shared hosted server), I cannot access the error_logs
on windows, I don't see an relevant error
Suggestions are welcome.
FTP sync hangs/freezes without error

FTP means this is in the libcurl library. Usually it should honor the time outs you have set, but there may be bugs. I can have a look: https://freefilesync.org/faq.php#crash

Hello,
Thanks for the reply.
I sent the dump as per instruction
Upon scan start,
after 15 sec - 206000 items found
after 2 min - 207700 items found & scanning hangs/stalls
after 5 min - dump created with processexplorer
.... HOLD IT....
I had not stopped the scanning as before, being distracted by a friend.
when I looked back, the scan was continuing again - I have no idea when it freed up
it's now at 30 min - 227000 items found and continuing
So please discard the dump and accept my apologies.
I will let you know the final outcome
Thanks for the reply.

The snapshot is from an old FFS 10.7 version.

update:
the scan/sync completes after all.
The scan phase takes about two hours interspersed with several pauses of about 10 minutes.
The actual sync takes less than 10 minutes.
I'm not sure these pauses with no apparent activity are caused by FF or the ftp server.
another connection to the bluehost ftp server stays responsive during such pauses .
As it's on a shared host, I cannot see it's error logs
I will try to setup a rsync connection to see if these pauses occur there
As for the FF version: I have on other pcs more current 11.? version running. I have yet to install that version on this system - mainly because this is a backup system running mostly flawless so not really monitored.
best regards
