This seems weird to me but:
I have an internal drive copying to an external drive for a backup.
I choose the Synchronize (update) method, as I want the external (right) drive to be an exact copy of the internal (left) drive.
Under delete files i have tried two options: Recycle Bin and Permanent.
What I am finding is that when the mirror is complete, the changed files are in place, but the total used space on the drive has went UP instead of down. in this case:
Source drive started at 3TB used, Mirrored to Destination drive 3TB Used.
I cleanup the source drive, it's now at 2.9TB. I sync to external... now it's 3.1TB.
any ideas?
Synchronize (update) doesn't truly delete?

If you want your external drive to become an exact copy of your left drive, you should use the Mirror sync variant, not the Update sync variant. (Later in your post you DO use the term Mirror)
Some external drives, e.g. NASs, sometimes have the option of enabling a local recycle-bin. This is a setting that is purely local to the drive, and not accessible by the laptop's or desktop's OS, and thus also not to FFS.

...I see the options now. I have no idea why I was glossing over it this entire time. I will retry and report back (might be a while, I'm also trying to fine-tune disk sector issues).
THANK YOU for your reponse!
