Re: FreeFileSync is not free.

It is still freemium....you like it or not. If you sell features, then it is freemium.

Re: I do not understand "versioning"

Sorry for the late reply. I have since gave up FFS for this reason. But I may follow if I'll try to use it again. Thank you for your help.

Re: I do not understand "versioning"

Thx.

Ok so with my setup I should expect to only see 10 folders, correct? But I do not. I see more than that...FFS doesn't seem to delete any.

Re: I do not understand "versioning"

I see. So does it mean in my case that it will only keep 10 folders? Or it will create new folders with the files that are not yet 10 days old? I am trying to understand how this works. Thanks!

I do not understand "versioning"

So I have selected Versioning and Time Stamp (folder) + marked last X days as "10". Shouldn't this keep the latest 10 versions of files/folders and delete anything from the file versioning folder that's older than that? I just want to keep the latest 10 versions/deletions for every file/folder. Now ...

Re: Cron jobs on Linux

Ok based on the links you provided I managed to make it work.

Install https://github.com/loimu/zeit - AUR here https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/zeit-git

Then simply add a new cron task as such:
DISPLAY=:0  /opt/freefilesync/FreeFileSync /home/tio/Documents/websitesbackup.ffs_batch

Re: Cron jobs on Linux

To run when I am logged in. I am trying with cron like
0 23 * * *      /opt/freefilesync/FreeFileSync '/home/tio/Documents/ynhdatafull.ffs_batch'
But that doesn't launch.

Re: Cron jobs on Linux

I have tried a bunch but since FFS opens in GUI mode then none work really. I am also using Arch and not Debian (like Ubuntu).

Cron jobs on Linux

The tutorial you recommend is outdated. https://freefilesync.org/manual.php?topic=schedule-batch-jobs#linux

Ubuntu doesn't use Unity, and Gnome Schedule seems abandoned. It is either not working or poorly working. Is there an alternative for Linux?

How to create a cron job that starts FFS in GUI ...

Re: FreeFileSync is not free.

That's also an interesting point since FFY says: " FreeFileSync is Open Source software". If they use GPL as a license, then whatever is built on top of it (new features) shouldn't also be under GPL? And thus, whoever gets the premium FFY version, is allowed to distribute it as such?

Re: FreeFileSync is not free.

When are you releasing you free and fully featured syncing utility then?
That's besides the point, of course. Deviates from my message entirely. If I were to make one, I won't be writing here, and it will be truly free. I do a lot of other things that are free for you and anyone else.

You could ...

FreeFileSync is not free.

First of all let me tell you that I am not criticizing you, and that I really love ffs and use it daily. I am a volunteer for the past 15 years and I create a lot of stuff for free (see tromsite.com and tromsite.com/tools).

So.

At first I thought FreeFileSync is "free" as the name implies. I saw ...

Re: Comparing contents takes days

Ah yes, if I switch to Compare Time and Size and it is hundreds of times faster. Thanks a lot. Instead of 3 days it takes some 1 hour which is reasonable.

So comparing the Time and Size should be enough to catch any changed file if I'm correct. Right?

Comparing contents takes days

I am syncing 2 big folders from one hard drive to another. Say around 1.5TB and 700.000 files maybe. I did a first run and took around 3 days to compare and copy. I thought the first run is slower and the rest would be faster. Now the sync kicked in and I see it compares again the two folders and it ...

Suggestios for Linux

Hey. Maybe these suggestions help:

1. Make the icon path relative. Right now this is the icon path: Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/FreeFileSync.png . We make custom icons for Linux (icon packs) and for your applications we can't make it work. Or is this all to do with the one who packages FreeFileSync?

2 ...
