Re: 3 identical synchronised maps

From the Manual page The lock files are only recognized by FreeFileSync and make sure that at most, a single synchronization is running against a certain folder at a time while other instances are queued to wait. This ensures that only consistent sets of files are subject to synchronization. The ...

Re: 3 identical synchronised maps

You can prevent the ffs_lock files being created by setting the LockDirectoriesDuringSync flag to False. But be aware of the risk. With the LockDirectoriesDuringSync flag set to True, the ffs_lock file is created at the start of an FFS sync, and removed upon its completion. However, some cloud ...

Re: How to start multiple jobs but let them run sequentially, as opposed to in parallel?

I refer to the CALL or Start /wait instruction when talking about scripting. Those are *.bat and *.cmd commands; not part of FFS. An excellent reference for *.bat or *.cmd scripting is https://ss64.com/nt/. In reality, my job1 is to backup %UserProfile% to a NAS, and the subsequent job2 is to backup ...

Re: How to start multiple jobs but let them run sequentially, as opposed to in parallel?

In a simplified example, say I have 2 ffs jobs: (1) sync a main copy to a backup (2) sync the backup to "the backup of backup" Why would you take this approach? Simply sync your "main copy" to your (1st) backup, and sync your "main copy" to your 2nd backup, your "backup of the backup". Then you ...

Discrepancy Manual page vs. actual software

Re: Bug - Time Span filter with Mirroring fails to delete

You may disagree, but FFS does exactly what you tell it to do: make an exact Mirror (source to target) of all files and folders that are in the scope of the sync. Per the Time Span filter, you have excluded all files older than 31 days, so those are outside the scope of your FFS sync and are ...

Re: Bug - Time Span filter with Mirroring fails to delete

The Time Span Filter works just like Include/Exclude Filter. All files that are not in scope of the sync are left untouched, and will not get deleted or overwritten. And that is exactly how it is designed to be. See https://freefilesync.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5123 and https://freefilesync.org ...

Re: Filter/Wildcard to include files from subdirectories without folders?

Well, you can also choose to define two left-right pairs (or two separate syncs): [ftp_address]/1 => [destination_location] and [ftp_address]/2 => [destination_location] and choose to use the Update sync variant ( not the Mirror variant). This will sync all files in the root of [ftp_address]/1 and ...

Re: Is there a way to sync only the folder tree?

@therube
It seems TS wants to just copy the folder-tree without any of its content,
similar to a Windows xcopy command with the /t option
(or /t /e if you also want to copy empty folders in the source tree)

The RTS manual page is still spot-on. You simply specify one or more folders/directories that need to be monitored for changes in the Folder(s) to Watch field(s). The shown Folder(s) to Watch field-entries C:\Source and D:\Target are just examples. Similarly the Command Line field-entry shown on the ...

Re: Feature request: 'include only older than' time span filter

Assuming you do not checkmark "Use database file to detect changes":
A Mirror sync will overwrite a right-side file that is different (in size and/or date) by the left-side file, even if the right-side file is newer.
An Update sync will leave a newer right-side file intact.

No clue there.
In the worst case, your GlobalSettingsNoVerify.xml is not updated to reflect the most recent syncs that were run.
