I try to explain my problem. I have a fairly large folder with about 70,000 files in 6,000 folders. The files are partly in MP3 partly in AAC / Flac I'm in the process of converting my collection to Flac. How do I get the program to back up all files including the folder structure. However, if I deleted an MP3 and replaced it with a Flac, for example, this should also happen in the backup folder. I don't want automatic synchronization. What should the settings look like. Sorry my English is not so good I speak German.

It sounds like you want to use a Mirror sync.
(In my mind, at least for me, Mirror is not as "safe" as an Update sync.
Start small, with a set of backup files, & get a good understanding of what is happening so not be surprised, afterwards.)

If you delete mp3 on left & replace it with flac, the mp3 on the right will be deleted & be replaced with flac.

Set your left side to: C:/MUSIC
& your right side to: Z:/BACKUP/MUSIC

That will copy everything from c:/music to z:/backup/music.

If only one folder contains your work files and the other is for backup, then select the Mirror variant. The left folder will be the source and the right folder the target of the synchronization.

Never use mirror sync.
This will delete everything in your backup folder that is not in your source folder.
For example:
If you rip a new album to a USB stick and then use "Mirror" to sync this onto your backup drive the program will delete everything on your backup drive and you will be left with only the new rip.
I know, I did it.

(I don't use, have never used, mirror) but what happens may (?) depend on which drive is set to source vs. which drive is set to target.

So if ordinarily you have C: source & USB target, & continually mirror in that direction, though, if you at some point switch those (so USB is source & C: is target) [& there is a Swap sides button in the FFS GUI], then the outcome will differ, potentially deleting files from C:.

In this form, this is an absurd statement.

Like with any tool (hardware or software), you have to familiarize yourself with a tool and its potential dangers, practice with it in an environment or on an object to which you can create little harm, and only then use the tool on objects (e.g. your car or your data) where incorrect usage of the tool may cause damage.
Don't blame the tool for your lack of due diligence.

If I have an external backup drive (F) and I want to keep a copy of certain files from my main drive C; then wouldn't mirror be a good option? For example, I have a quickbooks database on C: and I want to make sure that I keep a copy of that on my external hard drive. Therefore, wouldn't I put C: on the left side, F on the right side and then use "Mirror". That would take a copy of the Quickbooks file from C: and copy it on F:. What's wrong with that? Or am I misunderstanding the issue.

That is perfectly fine, which is why Plerry stated it was absurd to say 'never use mirror sync'
