Hello,

Looking at this: https://freefilesync.org/manual.php?topic=synchronization-settings
"Detect Moved Files" is very interesting feature but since according to documentation it does not work with SFTP what is the next best thing to use?

• I sure as hell don't want to use Google Drive or something like that.
• FTP seems really like a bad choice.

I wonder if the only option is SSHFS for a remote storage or what is the second best option.

Thanks!

"Detect Moved Files" is a feature that allows to to rename and/or move a file or folder (as long as within the scope of your sync), and effectively apply the same renaming or move in the syncs counter location.
It requires a file system and OS that has cross-session stable file-IDs.
If that is not available at either side of the sync, move or rename will simply not work.
There is no "next best thing to use".

Instead, a renamed or moved (e.g.) left-side file will then be copied over (again) to the right-side with their new name or in their new location (instead of being renamed or moved). The existing right-side file with the old name or in the old location will be deleted in case of a Mirror sync, variant. Conversely, in case of an Update sync variant, such right-side files will remain with their old name in their old location (effectively then having two copies of the file in the right-side; one with the old name/location and one with the new name/location).
