Hello and thank you for creating FreeFileSync and RealTimeSync! After trying many other sync utilities this program does exactly what I need and is actually pretty fast and very detailed in its operation. I am considering downloading the donation version but first I need to know how to do this:
I am using a Networked Attached Storage (NAS) device (drive N:\) where I save new and updated files from a hardware RAID-1 array (drive D:\) which is internally set up in my main desktop PC. Essentially I have set up a "backup of the backup" scenario for my files. However, this way the N:\ drive keeps growing with lots of unwanted files. So, ideally, the job should look like this: D:\ --> mirror --> N:\. FreeFileSync works flawlessly when I run it manually. Naturally, I would like to use RealTimeSync to monitor the D:\ drive and mirror it to the N:\ drive when files are newly created or updated. Additionally, I want this to happen silently and providing me with the ability to see a log file if/as needed later.
Is there a tutorial anywhere in here to explain how to accomplish this? Thank you very much for your time!

Thanks for that link! I had already followed what it says before my first post but with no success. RTS just sits in windows system tray but nothing happens when changes occur in the source folder. Also, if I restart the computer RTS does not auto-start. Obviously the configuration I'm using must be wrong.
Here's what it looks like:
Source is "D:\"
Target is "N:\"
Command line to run when changes are detected is:
"C:\Program Files\FreeFileSync\RealTimeSync.exe" "D:\Sync.ffs_batch"
I've set "idle time" to the maximum, e.g. 60 sec.
Also, in the tutorial, inside a purple window there is a "Note:" that mentions something about a "D:\Backup Projects.ffs_real" file. But in my target folder (N:\) there is no "*.ffs_real" file and -actually- no "*.ffs_batch file" either exists in my entire PC. Where do these files come from? Do I have to first create them? Where and what are the contents?
Like I said in my initial post all I want to accomplish is quite simple:
Use RTS to monitor my "D:\" drive and mirror the "N:\" drive when changes occur. Hopefully, also providing me with a simple log file (or email) of what happened.
Is anyone able to please list the steps required to make this work?
Thank you!
