I would like to use FFS to sync my files on my company machine to external media. Unfortunately I cannot install the program to that machine due to rights issues. They have all boxes locked down and will not provide admin rights to users without a seriously intensive q and a as to why. Nor do they seem to realize that users might want to have a backup of any of the data on the machine just in case. Is there any way to install FFS on a Windows box and then run it on a separate machine?

No, it is not possible to install FreeFileSync on one machine and run it on another. But one has a few options good to run FreeFileSync as a portable program without installing it.

1.) Use the version from PortableApps
2.) Use the last version of FreeFileSync (Version 8.6) that can be run as a portable program without purchasing the donation version.

Of course it is, that is what the "portable" installation option is for. However this is a Donation Edition-only feature: https://freefilesync.org/faq.php#donation-edition

Version 8.6 is the last version that can be used as a portable version without purchasing the donation version.

As a result sticking with version 8.6 allows FreeFileSync to be used in portable mode without purchasing the donation version.

Even if you did take that great feature out of the free edition still many thanks Zenju for writing this great program! You probably deserve more money than you have made from this software. Lots of people make far more off far less valuable code.
