Hello,
I have the drive from my laptop connected to my desktop in order to backup the laptop's operating system. Unfortunately, I'm getting the following errors multiple times.

Examples are:
Error Cannot read permissions of "U:\Windows\CSC".
ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED: Access is denied. [GetFileSecurity]

Cannot open file "D:\BackupLocation\Windows\HelpPane.exe".
ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED: Access is denied. [CreateFile]

Error Cannot write permissions of "D:\BackupLocation\Program Files\Windows Defender\ClientWMIInstall~a0df.ffs_tmp".
ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED: Access is denied. [SetFileSecurity]

To be clear, I am not attempting to back the currently running OS, I'm backing up the OS from another drive. I am also running FreeFileSync.exe as an Admin. Any idea what is causing these errors?

Thanks,
Redbeard

Some more info, regardless of running FFS as Admin, a Windows OS partition will still have permission errors. Windows doesn't treat your online Admin account as if it is the same as the offline Admin account, since they have different IDs. What you can do is make a registry edit to EnableLUA as that is what I use in my tech repair store. This probably won't make everything completely accessible, but it takes care of a lot. I won't tell you what to do, because if you can't figure it out on your own, you shouldn't do it, and I would recommend against it unless you really know what you are doing.
Also, there are better backup utilities to copy a whole drive, like MiniTool Partition Wizard.

Thanks, I already have this option enabled. And yes, there are much better options to make an image of a drive, but I need to be able to exclude a storage folder from the backup. Do you know of a good one with this option?

Make a clone and delete that folder?

The thought has crossed my mind, but I'll save that for a last resort
