Re: Jobs confusion
I appreciate that there has been a shift to discussing "multiple instances " of FFS but it isn't the problem I have.
1st problem - I created 2 jobs and they simply disappeared. Single session only and I tested this a few times and it just seemed to only allow 28 jobs till I opened the folder ...

Re: Jobs confusion
I don't understand the relevance of this answer. This isn't about "multiple instances of FFS running" I don't do that.
I really don't understand why we couldn't have a simple logical management of jobs such as a proper representation of a static job folder and a scan to show the jobs in that folder ...

Re: Jobs confusion
Hence my suggestions some time ago.
I see last sync data is stored in GlobalSettings.xml maybe I could preserve this data and restore it when I reinstate those backups in my list.
Not ideal but it'll have to do for now.

Understood however, not knowing this "virtual" system was a little bit of a problem.
It doesn't explain though how Created 2 new jobs and they didn't show up. In fact until I started to investigate I noticed that it would not display more than 28 and I had 33 jobs.

Jobs confusion
Ok So I'm really confused about how FFS regards the jobs location.
Today I created 2 batch jobs and after restarting FFS they weren't in the list.
I began to investigate and realised that I only have 28 of 33 jobs showing in the window and the 2 are definitely missing.

Re: [feature request] - Batch list organization
Thanks for the pointer I hadn't considered the manual real folder solution which I think will have to do.
I had hoped for a virtual solution to keeping things in the same place but this will work well even if duplicates have to be produced for different tasks.

[feature request] - Batch list organization
I'd love to see a way to group batch jobs other than colouring them. Some kind of folder-ing perhaps.
My batch list is growing and I have to us the naming to try to figure out which backups I need to click to apply to the current external drive that I've plugged in.

Re: User and password repository for accessing folders
I had an issue with my NAS drive when I first got FFS. The problem was that I had a password set for my NAS drive but it was not in the credential manager (deliberately).
The problem was that as this was not there FFS could not access the drive due to the password request not popping up. This was ...

Re: The Donation Edition is much too expensive
I would like to vote for this pricing model too. I like it and it's not obscene or over priced given that the donate version you get is valid forever! Only updates are limited by a time factor and for a few EU you can update to the latest versions for 3, 6 , 12 months and you can choose when to ...

Re: Donating, Pricing
Not only that but we also have to consider that you can donate less for less time for updates.
Each donation update is valid *forever* so if you are not so flush you can donate at the point where an update has significant things that benefit you.
Frankly I really like this model and am very happy ...

Re: Are multiple jobs done in order?
Thanks, you are right :) - that seems the perfect solution frankly.
I was going to look into a batch file (dos type) solution running each job that way but when I think of this, the first file simply runs the next one. For those that may run this (that isn't me of course) I can simply use the naming ...

That has potential, I never noticed the "on completion" - I'll have to look at how to use the command line I guess. I haven't had time to go into the more advanced options / methods.

Re: Donation edition is 20$ per year?
I'd have prefered to pay a bit more and get a lifetime license. Paying 20$ per year is a bit too expensive IMO.
We may prefer it but in fairness to this system the donation copies you get are forever unlocked, they do not "expire" and that means that for the most part you can wait for some ...

Re: Are multiple jobs done in order?
Many thanks, I thought this was the case but the doubt I had was due to the fact that you can actually changed the order of the jobs in the list.
Maybe I'll turn it into a feature request at some point.

Are multiple jobs done in order?
As per the title,
I am not sure when having jobs that have multiple entries if these are actually done in the order they are listed or are they done asynchronous?
The reason I ask this is that some backups need to have a separate job that updates some part of it. This would need to be done before ...

What might be good is a plug in architecture that allows 3rd parties to add these - freeing the author to get on with his usual excellent work?

PC count - donation version
Hi,
Can you tell me how the count works.
Currently I am using the donation version on my current pc. This device will soon be retired and I will move to another PC. How can I get FFS to recognise that the donation version is no longer present ?

Re: Back up of Sub set complex folders - tree suggestion
Thanks for clearing this all up.
I could have sworn that the paths I had previously were ignored so I set up a test and excluded all but one folder to make it quick and it worked. So yes :-) thanks again.

Re: Back up of Sub set complex folders - tree suggestion
Ah ok I see - you set the job up and then do a compare then you can right click on tree elements to exclude in filters.
However, this has highlighted 2 potential problems :
After doing a compare on 2 separate jobs (Personal Folders to 2 separate locations)
One is conspicuously missing a folder see ...

Back up of Sub set complex folders - tree suggestion
Hi,
I don't know whether this has been mentioned elsewhere or that I might have missed something but I'd like to see some kind of way to choose a subset of a complex folder structure for backup.
eg. On windows I back up the personal folders but I really don't want all of it so I have choose what I ...

Re: Window smb > NAS which need credentials
I am running as administrator.....
That's no longer the case since Windows Vista and later: Explorer is running non-elevated, unless you explicitly kill the process and restart from a parent process, that is also elevated......
Ok that makes sense then.
All I did was to isolate the FFS ...

Re: Window smb > NAS which need credentials
Well I tested this out in another way. As I can't seem to find anything on Google about how this works, I asked myself about a cmd line and sure enough I try in admin cmd line window:
dir \\nas253\folder
and I get "access denied" and this is after having put the credentials in and explorer ...

Re: Window smb > NAS which need credentials
Well I've found a kind of workaround to this - it still involved jumping through hoops but I found that the cmd line "net use" method does work if it's run as administrator. (btw I do run FFS as admin but it doesn't help this situation)
So in my saved folder I created the following:
