This is odd and maybe someone has an answer.
Caveat I'm a newbie and really like the product trying to work out the kinks so that I can better understand the process.
I've three devices that I'm using this product on. All Three have standard output of xback\original and xback\revisions device name different.
In one I ended up with a folder called xback\backup\..... which is not on the device being backed up.....
Is this one that is created by Freefilesync?
Confusing to me....
Thanks...
BTW: This is a terrific product..... thanks wish I had found it earlier in searches.....
Those are the subfolders being added to the backup under \user\backup\....
what is the backup folder?

That isn't created by FFS. Any backup software installed? Maybe something was installed or updated and picked up the drive automatically to be backed up

Your description makes little sense to me.
FreeFileSync (FFS) will sync between the left and right base location (Basic use 1 and item #7 in the FFS Quickstart manual page), and will only write files and folders in those base locations or any of its subfolders as needed to sync, according to the sync variant you have selected and potential In- and/or Exclude Filter rules.
The only exception is if you have enabled Versioning. Then files in your left or right base location or any of its subfolders, that will be overwritten or deleted by the FFS sync, will be moved to the self specified Versioning location, in the same (sub)folder structure as that in the base location, and with the same filenames, potentially with an added date-code.
FFS does not create any files and folders outside its base locations and its Versioning location, and does not create files or folders with names other than existing in the base FFS locations.
So, unless e.g. xback\original is your left base location, xback\backup your right base location and xback\revisions your Versioning location, those names do not make sense to me.
Neither does the picture showing the three weirdly numbered folders in user\backup.
Unless those folders exist in at least one of your base locations, they have not been created by FFS.
Is user\backup (part of) your left or right base location or your Versioning location?
If not, they have not been created or modified by FFS.
Remarkable is the modification timestamp of those folders.
Did you even run FFS syncs at 7:54, respectively 9:45?

I did not notice the time stamps…. Like I said bizarre to say the least. I’m on a tablet at the moment and will dig deeper into the details once back home later tonight.
I need to look at the file structures….
Thanks for responding.

ok, got back to the house figured out the problem..... I inadvertently grabbed in the selection the FileHistory back up information and moved it from the, what I thought was source, to the backup. In essence the program did as would be expected I just never put the 2 and 2 together.
Ok, I confess the DUH moment of the day.....
But your comments helped and I really appreciate the input.
I'm only about 4/5 days into using the product and working out the kinks.
I deleted those folders and reran the sync and it acted as expected. Hooray!
I've one more question that you might be able to assist with.
I would like to backup a single folder in the C:\Users\freeme\AppData\Roaming\audacity but exclude the rest of the \appdata folders. Is there anyway to accomplish that?
I'd suspect that I could put in excludes for all the folders in the roaming\ hierarchy and just leave that folder as not excluded but that is sure a lot of muck. Also, should any new folders be created from software additions and/or configurations those would be copied and not something I would want and/or need.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Mike,
Instead of "Excluding" everything but your one folder, simply "Include" ONLY that folder.
See pic.
Change "*\Adobe\ to whatever you need.

If the \AppData\Roaming\audacity folder is the only folder in your total FFS sync you want to sync, you can act as described by LeoW above, or simply define your left base location as C:\Users\freeme\AppData\Roaming\audacity and the right base location as its counterpart.
However, if you like to e.g. sync the entire C:\Users\freeme\ folder, except for all of its Appdata folder but the AppData\Roaming\audacity folder, you need to define two left-right base folder pairs, as described in the 'Example: Complex filter rules with exceptions' section of the FFS Manual page on Filtering.

Yes, this is another simple solution. If the \AppData\Roaming\audacity folder is the only folder in your total FFS sync you want to sync, you can act as described by LeoW above, or simply define your left base location as C:\Users\freeme\AppData\Roaming\audacity and the right base location as its counterpart.
