I have run FreeFileSync and Process Monitor. On the remote PC I see a truncated 260 character length path.
There is no \\?\ at the beginning of the path. This is with 11.3

Re: "Cannot move file" and "Cannot create directory"
Path limits have been removed and both PCs have been rebooted. File synchronisation is taken place between a client PC and its host in a Remote desktop session.

Re: "Cannot move file" and "Cannot create directory"
It is unique to long path lengths. This does not affect paths less than ~256. One with a length of 235 charcters is ok, one with 260 is not.

"Cannot move file" and "Cannot create directory"
I thought there was no limitation of path lengths with FFS?
I'm getting errors where I'm synchronising files with FFS working on a remote PC using Remote Desktop.
Cannot move file
"\\tsclient\D\W..............................e~50d1.ffs_tmp" to "yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy"

Re: Transfer speed limit
I often use FFS over Remote Desktop rather than setting up a VPN.
Everything else then becomes a snails pace where FFS takes over the bandwith. Is there a application that can throttle the IO for a specified process, that's free and hopefully open sourced?

Re: ERROR_FILE_EXISTS [CopyFileEx] on Samba share
Right, I'm not sure which version of Samba I'm running but believe it may be 3.6.25. I have the option of SMB1 and SMB2. Both were ticked initially.
Choosing SMB1 and SMB2 over the other or both made no difference. However on the share there is a tick-box for "Inherit Perms" which when ticked made ...

Re: ERROR_FILE_EXISTS [CopyFileEx] on Samba share
Many thanks for the explanation. I have emailed you a cropped PML file but uncertain it will give you much additional information.
While I agree that the server leaves a a mess for FFS, it should be apparent to FFS that:
1) There wasn't a xxxx.ffs_tmp file before the error

I wonder if it has a wobbly when the file name includes a "~"?
fr-FR-3-0~2466.ffs_tmp is the temporary FFS file, it doesn't exist on my HDD

Re: Cannot copy file
No! 30,000 seperate files!!
The example I gave was bad one as being a short path and Windows 10 system file.
Unfortunately the log file only shows the first 25 of 28,931 items but I think most have a long path name.
BTW Your suggestion may take a while :-)

I get an error "Cannot create directory" while attempting to backup a number of files with what appear to be long file-names.

Re: FFS does not find files beginning with a dot.
I've also just checked with FFS 10.10 and I can see "." files in the list and confident they will sync ok.
Dot files are also Linux system files and I have known some NAS drives to refuse to save them, such as a D-Link NAS when using FTP. I'm wondering if there is something else going on?

Re: Error: Cannot read file attributes of "ftp://192.168.1.xx".
Many thanks for the quick response. It worked perfectly.
For info, this is being used with 'ES File explorer' as a means of backing up files in the Android root memory area using the "Show on PC" feature that then seems to emulate a FTP server. The phone is obviously rooted.
All is well.

Re: Error: Cannot read file attributes of "ftp://192.168.1.xx".
I'm using ES File explorer to access the root storage.
I'm having intermittent issues with some copying directories using cut and paste, so perhaps not a FFS issue.

I'm wondering if this was caused by a remnant of MalWareBytes where I inadvertently agreed to a trial subscription of their "Real-Time Protection".

Filesync file comparison stage is very slow
This is using a VeraCrpty volume on a NAS Drive.
I've checked the file system for errors using chkdsk, there were none; and it worked fine for a small smaple directory.
I am now backing up in mirror mode a whole drive, and so this has in the order of 2,000,000 files or more.
